Back to back on Royal Caribbean

Back to back on Royal Caribbean

The gods have seemingly smiled down upon us and allowed us the time to try out a nearly back to back trip between the Liberty and the Oasis of the Seas.

This is the first time we have selected a trip for the sake of just floating around to get fat. There are no new ports to see, so my mission is to wander around two big boats and stress test the soft serve machines. This is a bonus level available only for young or former service members not constrained by a scale or a tape measure around your neck.

Planning back to back cruises- No AI, just comparing websites.

We used our go to website, vacationstogo.com, to find this trip. Originally, we found an 8 day trip on the Oasis for under $800, a very low price for this class of ship that allowed us to try out the “new” mega-ship experience.  However, the hassle of trans-continental travel for a 7-8 day trip is no longer worth the squeeze, so a back-to-back search was in order.

After ruling out a long, but less expensive MSC trip, we found a frugal 4 day trip on the new to me Liberty of the Seas. With a one day layover in FLL, it seemed like a decent adventure. A quick check with google flights to identify affordable airfare options, and we were in.

Concept of Vacation:

  1. Air from home the day prior; too many chances for holiday travel issues to screw things up.

2. Used priceline VIP from recent rental car stay to find the Red Carpet Inn Airport/Cruise Port Fort Lauderdale, which offered both shuttle from airport to hotel and hotel to cruise port (see review here)

3. Arrived and boarded Liberty of the Seas; too quick, too easy. Convinced ship would sink.

4. Floated, got fat, came back. Check

5. Uber to hotel, early check in using Marriott status, paid using Marriott points for a balcony cabin at the Westin Fort Lauderdale.

6. Got sandy, got more fat at hotel restaurant, slept, back to Port.

7. Arrived, awe struck by massive ship, boarding was quick considering the ship can hold half of the population of Lithuania.

8. Floated, got fat, came back. Check
