Those of you who have let your Driver License expire due to an allergy to the DMV, and don’t pack a passport in the same front shirt pocket as an overly large holder of your prescription clip-ons may be in for a shock if you try to use your new CAC-like retirement ID that has an INDEF expiration.
In March of this year, I was given a backhanded slap for presenting an “expired” 5-month-old DD Form 1 to the TSA agent in return for the privilege of cramming on a flight full of spring breakers. Sure, she might have been doing me a favor so I bear no grudge against her, but the system is always far game.
I won’t touch the issue of a retiree’s potential of getting blocked from flying in planes that shuttle around tens of thousands of literally undocumented “newcomers”…but feel free to touch it for me.
A quick check of Ask Jeeves has me believe that any DOD ID meets RealID requirements, but apparently the TSA hasn’t received the Internet Explorer 2.0 update and is stuck with AOL.
Not holding my breath for a fix, as I expect none of you ever would, so be prepared with back-up IDs such as an enhanced license (where you get to pay more to prove who you are so that others can have US issues IDs) or a passport card designed specifically to not fit in a wallet or be convenient in any other way.
Stay crusty my friends.
